The next meeting of the 14th Representative District Democratic Committee will feature two newly announced candidates for state office. Civil rights attorney Dwayne Bensing has launched a primary bid for attorney general against incumbent Kathy Jennings. In addition, Mike Miller, a small business owner from Sussex County, has announced he’s running for state treasurer against two other Democratic contenders.
The program will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 8, with a Dutch treat dinner, followed by remarks from the speakers at 6:00, and committee business at 6:30. All registered Democrats are welcome to participate, with the location of the event provided to those who

The legal director of the ACLU of Delaware, Bensing previously served in both the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. He began his career as a middle-school teacher in Philadelphia with Teach for America before earning his law degree from Penn Law. In Delaware, his legal work has ranged from voting rights and education equity to prison conditions and police accountability.
A lifelong Delaware resident, Miller has more than 30 years of experience in business and accounting as owner of Miller’s Lawn Services and Tax-Man Accounting Services. He twice ran unsuccessfully for office as Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives. As a candidate for treasurer, he’s called for increasing transparency in state financial operations and making government more responsive to all Delawareans.
